Staff Accountant II

Basic Function
Perform accounting and monthly close procedures for the NJR parent company, the company's pension and other postemployment benefit plans and the consolidation entries for the financial statement close. Assist management with financial analysis, technical accounting, accounting policy and external/SEC reporting matters.
Major Responsibilities:
Prepare consolidated financial statements by gathering and analyzing information from the general ledger system and from other members of the accounting teams
Maintain and balance intercompany consolidation schedules and record monthly consolidating journal entries to the general ledger. Work with company subsidiary accountants to ensure proper consolidations and intercompany eliminations
Prepare general ledger entries for the parent company by maintaining records and files provided by internal and external sources
Prepare and maintain parent company balance sheet account reconciliations on a monthly basis
Prepare monthly and annual general ledger entries for the company's pension and other postemployment benefit plans while coordinating with external specialists on the calculation of the related liabilities and expenses
Assist with fulfilling requests made by the company's internal and external auditors
Make recommendations for policy and procedure improvement by analyzing current practices and workflow
Maintain Sarbanes Oxley compliance procedures for parent company accounting and consolidation processes
Assist management with the formal documentation and development of the company's accounting policy and procedures roadmaps
Prepare comprehensive white papers detailing assumptions and conclusions surrounding GAAP rules and impact to company transactions, where applicable
Protect organization's value by keeping information confidential
Education and Experience
Proactive and deadline-oriented with strong attention to detail and analytical skills. Knowledge of GAAP and SEC accounting/reporting requirements and application. Strong command of Microsoft Excel and advanced spreadsheet functionality. Strong communication (both verbal and written) and interpersonal skills to be able to work with other members of the accounting department.
Required: Bachelor's degree in Accounting; four to six years of experience at a public accounting firm in auditing or at a public company in a general accounting role.
Desired: Experience with JD Edwards, CPA, "Big 4" accounting; utility and/or energy company experience.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
